An introduction to commitment control for RPG programmers,” in the September/October 2007 issue of iSeries 400 Experts Journal, I introduced you to the basic rules and coding requirements for using commitment control in your RPG programs. You learned the necessity of attaching tables to journals, the coding requirements in your RPG programs, and the need for the Start Commitment Control (STRCMTCTL) and End Commitment Control (ENDCMTCTL) commands. You also learned that although other programs and jobs cannot update rows that have not been committed, they can access the rows for input.
